Leadership is one of the most sought after topics when it comes to personal and professional development. It's no wonder. We all want good leadership.
Leaders point the way and help keep others on task. Leadership can either move an organization forward or hold it back. Yet, any leader today was once a follower, just as any expert today was once a novice.
In fact, you could even argue that good leaders today still need to be following leaders who can continue to help them develop their leadership skills. Here are three ways.

We normally think of these higher leaders as mentors. These are people who have achieved a certain level of personal and professional success or within one's specific industry. It's good advice to find one and continue to learn and grow. Look within your organization, profession or church for people who've been there, done that.
Other leaders we can follow come in the form of mastermind groups or accountability groups. These are typically small groups of like-minded individuals who provide feedback and offer their collective wisdom to each other. They meet on a monthly or weekly basis, and their impact can be powerful.
A third way for leaders to be followers is to follow other influential leaders in cyberspace. I'm talking about thought leadership in the form of blogs and social media, where you can find some of the world's very best leaders sharing their insights...for free. I personally enjoy daily updates from Seth Godin and Michael Hyatt.
So, if you're a leader, that's great. It's a good start. But don't stop being a follower of other leaders. Just make sure you're following the right ones.
