Teamwork. Wow, was it ever on display in the Dallas Mavericks' NBA championship victory over the Miami Heat. It's clear from how the Mavs outplayed the Heat that teamwork trumps talent.
The Mavs played great defense while also managing to score on offense with a multi-pronged strategy. Yes, Dirk Nowitzki, the series MVP, was the go-to guy, but the rest of the team followed up with key shots at opportune moments.
While the Heat also played well in spurts, and while they clearly had an all-star cast that included LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, they could not overcome the relentless team approach of Dallas.

It reminds me of one of the key moments in "Miracle," the movie about the 1980 U.S. Olympic gold medal hockey team, when coach Herb Brooks, played by Kurt Russell, explains why all-star teams fail and why his "system" is designed to win. "It's a pretty lofty goal, Herb," Brooks is told. "Well...that's why I want to pursue it," Brooks replies.
It's clear in sports and it's also true in business, teamwork and teammates are the key, not always whether you have the best highlight reel.
