"No man is an Island." We've all heard that quote from John Donne, and yet have a tendency to resist the truth of the statement.
We buy into the myth we can do it all on our own. We don't need a helping hand, or so we think. The reality is that you and I can benefit from collaboration more than we might imagine.
I saw this first hand the other day.
We buy into the myth we can do it all on our own. We don't need a helping hand, or so we think. The reality is that you and I can benefit from collaboration more than we might imagine.
I saw this first hand the other day.
I drafted a proposal that seemed to cover the basic elements of what we needed to say. But, after a colleague reviewed it, it was clear I had missed some important points.
More writing, more discussion. Then, a third colleague took a look. You guessed it. More changes. More good ideas. In the end, the proposal was far better than what I would have turned out on my own.
If you're avoiding collaboration because it's more time consuming or because someone might improve what you've already done, you're missing the whole point.
Someone said it well: "None of us is as smart as all of us."
