Marketing and content strategy for associations and organizations

Every business runs on trust.

Members trust associations to represent their interests. Customers trust that your product will do what you say it will do. Employees trust leadership to make sound decisions.

When that trust grows, opportunities grow with it. When it erodes, the organization suffers.

For the longest time, we’ve been competing on things like features, convenience or price. Now, with AI accelerating the production of content, trust is becoming more valuable.

Not trust as a marketing slogan. Trust as a business strategy.

Many leaders think about trust only during a crisis. By then, it's often too late.

Trust is built through hundreds of decisions that most people barely notice: telling the truth when it's uncomfortable, admitting mistakes and keeping promises.

Think of it this way: we all have a trust account and we make deposits into or withdrawals from this account every day. The balance matters long before the crisis arrives.

Artificial intelligence has made it easier than ever to create polished articles, videos, emails, graphics, and presentations. It’s an amazing time to be in marketing or content creation. Yet, it’s both an opportunity and a challenge.

The real question isn't whether AI was used.
It’s whether AI helped communicate reality more clearly—or created a false impression.

Used ethically, AI can clarify ideas, summarize complex information, and help experts share their knowledge more quickly.

Used carelessly, it deceives.

Technology itself isn't trustworthy or untrustworthy. People are. We build credibility over time. Sometimes slowly. Unfortunately, we can lose trust almost instantly. If you don't believe me, look up Arthur Andersen, the prestigious accounting firm that collapsed after questionable accounting practices came to light in the early 2000s.

As AI lowers the cost of producing content, polished communication will no longer distinguish one organization from another. Credibility will.
The organizations that stand out won't necessarily publish the most. They'll be the ones whose audiences put the most trust in them.
