The tremendous success of LinkedIn's Initial Public Offering this week got me thinking about the value we have as individuals in the marketplace. In other words, if someone were to offer an IPO for you, how much attention would you get? How much interest would there be and what stock price would you fetch?
If the answer to those questions is a lackluster, "not much," it might be time for some reflection. Ask yourself some tough questions about the value you contribute at work, at home and in your church. You might ask yourself: if you were to suddenly disappear, how many people would notice? That's pretty sobering, isn't it?

True, no one is irreplaceable, and we all have value as human beings. But, I think we can either get an inflated view of ourselves ("they can't get along without me") or we fail to grasp the potential impact we can have on the job and in the lives of others.
Somewhere in between those two extremes is our opportunity to increase our value and influence in the world around us. Take time today to reflect on what the value really is and on how you can begin to make a greater contribution in the days and weeks to come.
