The toughest commitment you can make is not to your spouse, your kids, your boss or anyone else. The toughest commitment is to yourself.
Personal
It's the commitment you use to reach that goal, accomplish that dream, develop that new skill or take up that new hobby. It's the commitment you make to accomplish more and do more for others.

Commitment is easier when it involves others because they create a built in sense of accountability. We know when we've fallen short. We know when we've let them down. In the case of your boss, you really know it.
More effort for others
So, we put more effort into our commitments to others. We don't always succeed, but it's typically not because we didn't try.
Commitment to ourselves? That's a different story. We know we can slack off, telling ourselves we're busy with other things, more important things. We tell ourselves we can get started later, much later. And we often don't.
Don't give yourself an out
Next time your tempted to let your commitment to yourself slide, stop. Don't give yourself an out. Keep your own commitments.
