They sneak into our consciousness and our conversation. They're always lurking in the background, ready to invade when we least expect it. They are a menace to any successful achievement or enterprise. I'm speaking of course, about excuses.
We can find excuses for just about anything. We don't have enough money, not enough time, not enough skills, not enough help from others, not enough of the right contacts, and the list goes on. I know I've made plenty of excuses over the course of my life.
"He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else." - Benjamin Franklin
The trouble with excuses is that we learn to rely on them, even when we know better. We might actually line up an excuse ahead of time, so that if something goes wrong, we can point to the excuse. In other words, we're setting ourselves up to fail.
Learn to see excuses as the time wasters and idea killers that they really are. Learn to fight them at every turn. You've got to think, "excuse me," and move on. What's your excuse?
