When does a fire feel the best? On a cold night.

When is a cool breeze most welcome? On a scorching afternoon.

When is a candle most effective? In the darkest room.

Perspective means everything. What does it mean for you and me?

One of your New Year's resolutions must be to get more mileage out of your efforts. Don't just give a speech, make parts of it available as a podcast or several blog posts. Don't just do a media interview, have it recorded and post the audio on your website.

The point is that so many of the things we do on a routine basis can be the basis for additional marketing efforts. Marketing results in more influence and influence leads to more income.

What are some ways your material can be used and re-used?

One of my favorite quotations (I have it on the home page of my website) is from George Eliot: "It's never too late to be who you might have been."

I've pondered that sentence over and over, and I believe its truth more than ever. We only have one biological life here on Earth, but we have plenty of opportunities to use our life in different and fulfilling ways -- even in our later years.

Back in my radio news days, I used to host and produce an annual Year in Review program. My fellow journalists would sit around the studio and discuss the major news stories of the year, why they were important and what developments were likely to be major stories in the coming year. I always enjoyed it, even though it took a lot of work to put together.

So, I got to thinking...why not come up with your own personal Year in Review? It doesn't have to be a major production. Perhaps just a list of the top five or 10 events in your life during the past year.

As an example, take a look at the following categories to put your year in perspective:

With the Chicago Bears preparing to face the Denver Broncos this weekend, much of the focus is on Tim Tebow, the rookie quarterback who defies the odds.

Most of the experts say he should never have been drafted in the first round, that he will never be a top tier quarterback in the NFL because he doesn't have the right throwing motion or the right footwork. Yet, he continues to win.

So, what's behind his success, and what can we learn from Tebow? Here are just three of his qualities:

We are so focussed on getting things done, and we're so squeezed by time that quality may suffer. How to prevent that? Aside from the obvious things like attention to detail, extra care, etc?

Three ideas.
  • Keep the customer in mind at all times. Look at things from his or her perspective. What does he or she need? Does the quality you provide make that happen?

We've all heard the expression, "Opportunity knocks," or "Opportunity is knocking."

I think there's real truth in that saying because we have all seen moments in our lives when we realize we are being presented with an opportunity. But, very often we don't act. Why?

That's the subject of this audio post. Listen now (1:50).

The focus of this audio post is to begin working on your New Year's Resolutions right now, today. It's exactly one month to go before 2011. Why Wait? Listen now...(2:31).
